ART AND SOUL

When I was working out the decor of my loft, I decided I wanted it to feel sort of like an art gallery...

The first two paintings are "copies" of ones at the DMA. I was there one day looking for inspiration and I kept thinking about how much I wished I could hang those two in my house...until I realized I (kind of) could. I think it really helped me hone in on my own artistic style as well.

This is one of my original pieces...just red, I know, but there's something I love so much about dramatic colored paintings against stark walls, and I didn't want to detract from the contrast. The texture adds just enough interest for me.

Another original piece...there is glitter detailing in this one, but more on that later...

Another recreation, this time from a set of paintings at Legacy Books. They have such great art there. I love how this almost looks like a crocodile print...

This piece, which currently resides above my bed, is my latest original work. It was kind of a breakthrough for me, so to speak, in terms of defining my vision as an artist. It's kind of hard to tell, but at the top left hand corner there's black glitter. It started out as something I kind of did on a whim, but I love how it turned out and what it adds to the moody, organic feel of the painting. I will definitely be playing with the embellishment concept for future works, hopefully coming soon, so look forward to pictures...

GO FOR THE GOLD

This weekend Sarah and I decided to hit some vintage stores in Dallas. Our first stop was to Ahab Bowen...

My absolute favorite find of the day was this Black Tie by Neiman Marcus shift. So gorgeous. If I could think of a single place to wear it, it definitely would have come home with me. I think it would look amazing with a top knot and a killer pair of black booties. Very Carrie Bradshaw...

More of the eclectic selection at Ahab.

After that we headed over to one of my favorite Dallas vintage shops, Dolly Python. I found a great worn in denim shirt and black leather pencil skirt on my first visit, and I've been a fan ever since. The fact that Erin Wasson loves it, too, doesn't hurt either...

Me in my new glasses from Ahab Bowen! I love them.

(Worn with an Odille shirt dress, Madewell belt, and Linea Pelle studded bracelets.)

My awesome sister.

(Wearing an H&M dress, Madewell chambray shirt, Wanderlust flip flops, and our mom's belt from the 90's)

Dolly Python has such an amazing selection of perfectly worn in boots...

Still thinking about that dress...

IN WITH THE OLD

I recently took some time to assess my current wardrobe situation and get rid of pieces that I haven't worn in a substantial amount of time...not an easy task. I tend to get caught up in how beautiful certain items are in their own right, even if they don't really fit my style anymore...

The one exception? Full skirts. I have a couple that I admittedly don't often wear, but couldn't bear to part with. As a way to convince myself I should keep them, I decided to play around with styling my favorite one...

I love that the zipper down the front makes it a little edgier, which isn't a quality commonly found on this silhouette.

Worn with Guess heels and a silk button down, studded belt, and socks, all from Madewell.

IT'S SO HAUTE OUTSIDE...

I swung by Nordstom Rack yesterday before work and found this amazing sequined Haute Hippie skirt at such a ridiculous price; I still can't believe my luck...

I love how it's neutral, but not boring and flashy without looking ridiculous for day. Haute Hippie does this so well...

Worn with a t-shirt and necklace from Madewell (www.madewell.com), 3.1 Phillip Lim leather jacket, and Dolce Vita Raleigh wedges.

This little guy was running around while we were taking pictures...isn't he adorable?!

I'm over these 100 degree temps, I think he has the right idea. This looks so refreshing right about now...

I have a blog!

Posts coming soon...
